2. Be PATIENT with PROGRESS

Just like in the classroom, every kid learns differently and at different speeds. The same goes with sport with regards to their physical development, skills improvement, energy levels and their personal motivation.

So while we’d all love our kids to become overnight ‘star athletes’ – let’s all be patient with their progress. Let’s not push them too hard or show any signs of frustration with their progress. Even without saying anything, our body language can often inadvertently crush their confidence and self esteem.

Remember how motivated we were as kids to make our parents proud? Well sadly, far too many of our teenagers are dropping out of sport altogether due to the pressure of not living up to their parents expectations.

That’s a lifetime love of sport gone. Forever. You don’t want that to be your child!
